So my work changed our posture today, initially we were going to be home through the end of next week. Today they say we’re all going to be WFH through May 1st. That’s a long time to be home, I am going to need to put some serious effort into a routine to keep me fit and sane.

I’m going hiking this weekend, and will probably start to Kayak more too. I’ve already made a large list of things I hadn’t done because of either lack of time or motivation and I’ll try to make up for that.

I do realize I’m incredibly lucky and privileged to work for a place that takes our safety seriously and to be in a job where I can work remotely. My heart seriously goes out to those who don’t have either. Stay safe out there Oppo - if you’re in the St Louis area and need something feel free to reach out and I’ll do what I can.

Stay safe and stay sane....I like your attitude and hope to continue being motivated by whatever you post here!

Those two are the goal - going to have to fight off both cabin fever and depression here. I’m not a very social person to begin with so the withdrawal from friends at work leaves me without a lot of other human contact (except for my poor wife dealing with my crazy ass).

I’m also going to try to post more on Oppo here - that’ll help with the isolation.

Good plan. BTW your posts better have more kick-ass pictures like this kayak shot, look at that glassy water!

T ha t looks really nice! I looked into kayaking, but the cost of entry at the time and the need to store kayaks at the house made my wife uncomfortable. So, we had a couple of excursions with rented kayaks, had some fun, then called it good.

Good luck. Stay happy. Have fun. Wash your hands. :)

That’s the plan

I grew up canoeing but wanted to go faster easier so I trawled CL for a while and this beautiful 15' perception followed me home. I love it, its light for a roto- molded kayak (~60 pounds), tracks fantastically with its retractable skeg and I can cruise at 6mph on flat water.

I bought a second one for the wife (13') but she didn’t love it.  She actually loved mine so when we went out she would take mine and I’d ride in hers which was terrible compared to it.  So we sold hers but haven’t found another one so it’s usually just me that goes out.

I was looking at the cost of buying four of them. I could have gotten away with a couple of canoes, but as you noticed, they aren’t as fun. I’d also have to figure out how to transport them. In the end, the expected amount of use for the cost of entry just wasn’t worth it for us.

What do you use to transport your kayak? I’ve really been wanting to buy one but I’m not particularly motivated to spend as almost as much on a roof rack as the boat would cost.

For the longest time I used a Yakima Q tower round bar rack - you can pick them up for $100 on CL/Facebook then buy the clips that fit your car for another $60. Cheap and effective.

As my sportwagen has rails those wouldn’t work anymore though and I bought one of their newer systems that clips onto my existing rails.  Yakima Timberline towers - I think it was ~250 for the towers and crossbars new and they’re quieter than the old bars and pretty strong too.

Yeah - I’ve always paddled so already had the rack, life jackets and so on.  It was an easy transition to make.  Even sold my canoe last year as it hadn’t hit the water in a while.

Another STL oppo! I live in Springfield IL and Springfield MO so I visit STL very frequently. Once all the virus stuff passes, we should have a STL Oppo Meet
